THE RECORDS – Catholic is 2-0 in 2013. The Irish opened their season with a 22-13 win at home over Notre Dame, then won last week at Coalfield, 47-7. CAK is 1-1 this season. The Warriors won at Franklin Road Academy, 35-10, then lost at home last week to Powell, 42-41.
ON THE SIDELINE – Steve Matthews is in his first year at the helm of the Irish. He also serves as Catholic’s offensive coordinator. Matthews comes to Catholic from Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, where he served as offensive coordinator from 2010-2012. He was head coach at Moore County in 2008 and 2009 and posted a 10-10 record. He also served as QB/WR coach at Tullahoma, his high school alma mater, from 2004-2007. Matthews played collegiately at Tennessee and Memphis. His record at Catholic is 2-0.

WEEK ONE – Catholic moved its record to 2-0 with a 47-7 win at Coalfield. Logan Lacey grabbed a six-yard scoring strike from Zac Jancek midway through the first quarter to give the Irish a 7-0 lead. After Coalfield tied the game on its ensuing drive, the Irish went ahead to stay on a 29-yard pass from Jancek to Jordan Anderson. Just more than two minutes later Jancek connected on a 73-yard catch and run to Elijah Brown. Dominic Souder moved Catholic to a 28-7 halftime lead with his 27-yard interception return. Two Wyatt Price field goals (31 and 30 yards), sandwiched around a 32-yard interception return for six by Augie Fortune, gave the Irish a 41-7 led after three quarters. Jermaine Buchannon had a three-yard touchdown run late in the contest to end the scoring. Jancek was 13-of-20 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns, while Buchannon topped the Irish rushing attack with 86 yards on 11 carries. Catholic had 389 yards in total offense on the night. The Irish defense limited Coalfield to 117 total yards. David Hamilton had 13 tackles, while Souder had seven stops in addition to his interception. Price was five-of-five on his extra points to go along with his two field goals.
