2018 WR Cam Blakely Finds His Fit At Miami-Ohio
2018 Knoxville Catholic wide receiver Cam Blakely (6’4 201) had offers from several schools. None of them stood out more than Miami-Ohio, of the Mid American Conference. Blakely knew that he would play for the Redhawks after he took a recent visit and was blown away.
“I was hearing from some other schools and had offers from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Western Carolina and Austin Peay” said Blakely. “Miami-Ohio was my biggest offer and I have always dreamed of playing at the highest level. I went up there for a visit. It was everything that I was looking for. I liked the coaches, the environment. It was just a great fit for me.” On his unofficial visit, Blakely got a peak at how the Redhawks plan to use him in their offense. “They had it all set up. They had a side by side comparison of my film and some cut ups of what they do on offense. I will move around a lot, from TE, WR and the slot. I just loved how they have a plan for me. I just loved it up there.” Making his decision early was something that appealed to Blakely, as the recruiting process was starting to wear him down. “It was stressful. Coaches texting you at all times of the day, everybody wanting you to come to their school. You just can’t go everywhere, its hard to get to every school.”
The Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish lost a lot of firepower from last year’s squad. Many consider the Irish in a rebuilding mode, but Blakely sees it differently. “This is Catholic, the expectation is to always compete for a state championship. I think we can be even better this year. More guys are stepping up as leaders and we have a ton of great players who have played together for a long time. Everybody is buying in to what we are trying to accomplish. People may think we are going to be down, but I don’t see it that way.”
The Irish will open the season on Aug 18th against perennial state power Maryville High School.
