With Saturday’s matchup between Tennessee and East Tennessee State University, choosing which team to cheer for isn’t a simple decision.

Countless families have ties to both schools and for Alfie Rowan, the matchup means keeping her orange clothes in the closet on Saturday.

Rowan and her husband both attended UT, but her son Austin Rowan plays football for the Bucs. Playing under the lights at Neyland Stadium is a dream come true, albeit in a slightly different role.

“That’s something he’d always dreamed of, growing up and playing in Neyland Stadium. Now it just so happened that he ended up on the other side, but it’s a great opportunity,” Alfie Rowan said. “He’s still going to be out there with all those cheering fans and there’ll be a few in orange that love him as well.”

Every other week the Rowan family is all in for the Vols, but this weekend they’ll be pulling for their son’s team.

“We always love to see UT play well when UT is playing anyone but ETSU, so we’d love to see an upset this particular week,” Rowan said.

Rowan is one of 22 players on the ETSU roster from Knoxville and surrounding communities.
